About

Hello, I'm Matthew Parrott.

I make Tally Hoops, the basketball shot tracker for Apple Watch and iPhone. I build it on my own, under the name mawapa, and I've logged more than 30,000 of my own shots with it.

Why Tally Hoops

I love playing basketball, and I want more people to enjoy it as exercise, even if they never play a game. Tally Hoops has been on the App Store since 2018, and it turns every session into a chase for a personal best.

It's shaped by practicing in crowded gyms, where setting up a phone to film yourself isn't an option. So logging lives on the wrist: Double Tap or roll the Digital Crown, and keep shooting. The streak counts weeks, not days, because most of us don't shoot every day.

How I build

One person makes these apps, so they stay small on purpose: no accounts, no ads and no tracking. Your sessions stay on your devices and in your own iCloud. The same goes for my other apps, LifeTally and Medieval Reactions.

My day job

By day I build apps as part of a team, and in 2026 our work won an Apple Design Award for Innovation. The award went to that team's app, not to Tally Hoops, which I make on my own.
